A couple years ago I created this mock-up of what a Chronicles game would look like had it existed in the era of 16-bit cartridges. It would be based loosely on the Osaka Kanjozoku and our adventures with them. Like a racing game with a storyline, so like a racing RPG basically. I made a bunch of cartridge cases, designed a box, did video content for it and everything. It was a lot of fun and was received well. It felt ultra-realistic I think, though none of it was ever real…
It was one of my favorite personal fun projects that helped me get through a pretty tough time back then and so I wanted to add to the lore of “The Chronicles: Highway Attack Challenge” by creating promotional posters for the SNES game in traditional magazine advert style—but for both Japan and USA. I never told anyone but back then I even went as far as to create the Super Famicom version, box and all. I just never released it to the public. It was only fitting that a game based on Japanese car culture would have their own iteration for their Nintendo console…
Both ads are similar but unique in their localization. The U.S. version is minimalistic while the Japanese ad is very in-your-face and busy, to show the chaos that the game presents.
You have the choice of either the SNES version (English) or the Japan Super Famicom version (Kanji). Or get both for a bundle price!
